PARIS : A MINI GUIDE TO PARIS IN DECEMBER
2020 is the first time in almost ten years that I will travel around Christmas at home, from Spain to Portugal; From Nigeria to France, From Mexico to Jamaica. I have been fortunate to spend this time in a new location. This year the plan was to spend this time in Costa Rica, but with everything that this year has been and shifting priorities, going to Costa Rica has been postponed indefinitely. I was thinking back over Christmas memories this past weekend, and the moments and memories are priceless. One that always stands out in Paris! During this season, spending time in Europe is something I recommend for every travel bucket list; it is just different and more festive and cozy.
Whatever downside comes with lower temperatures and shorter days this time of year in Paris is more than compensated for by the beauty in the City. I have spent parts of December in Paris twice now, and it is always unique the decoration; the markets. Visiting Paris this time of year also means there no shorter lines, and Like a lot of Europe, most places are closed on Christmas day, so keep that in mind if you are thinking about heading that way for the holidays.
If you visit Paris during this time of the year; here are a few things I recommend:
See the most spectacular decorations at the windows of Galeries Lafayette; Printemps or at Le Bon Marche Rive Gauche;
Explore the Christmas markets. There are several, including the markets at Notre Dame; Hotel de Ville; and Les Halles and Champ-Elysees;
See the lights and decor lining the length of Champs-Elysees; and the shopping street Rue de la Paix - from Tiffany’s to Tuileries Gardens
See the most spectacular Christmas tree at Galeries Lafayette;
Visit Disney Paris for an Enchanted Christmas.
If you fancy ice skating - there is no shortage of ice rinks - Paris Zoo; Grand Palais; The Eiffel Tower, and Christmas Village on the Champs Elysees.
