The Birthday Look
In the weekend update # 5 post [read here] - I promised to share the details of the birthday look - including final dress pick, accessory and makeup pick - So let's jump right in and start with the dress.
The Dress
There were six dress options I was working with and after several tries I decided to go with the ASOS pencil dress It is a woven poly-blend with side pockets, folded sleeve detail and crew neckline. This dress comes in two colors - I chose the dress in white because of the theme of the event. My birthday theme was a night out in Paris and guests were asked to wear something black, so white seemed appropriate for contrast and to stand out. The crew neckline and the side pockets sold it for me. If you are interested in this dress, you can pick it up here.
The Face
I debated quite a bit on whether to go to a makeup counter for a makeover or just do it myself. I initially went to the makeup counter and although the result was great, it was not quite my style, so I left the base, brows and concealer, but switched up everything else. For foundation, it was the Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation in Rich Sienna, this foundation blends perfectly and does exactly what it says on the tube. Concealed dark circles with Laura Mercier High Coverage concealer number 6. My brows were shaded and filled with the Laura Mercier eye brow pencil in Rich Brunnette. For my cheeks, I chose an all time favorite the Milani baked blush in Fantastico mauve. Eyes were quite simple with lashings of the Balm What's your type mascara. For the waterline, I layered the Stila smudge stick waterproof liner in bronze over the Jane water resistant eye liner in black. Eye shadow, I used a gold and bronze combo eye shadow. For the pierce de resistance, I chose the Rimmel London Kate Lipstick in Rossetto (60) - which I now consider to be my perfect red.
The Accessories
I decided on gold accessories - I have always loved the color and the combination of white and gold spells chic and glam.
SHOES. I wanted something chic and comfortable as soon as I decided on gold accessories, I knew which shoe from my collection I had to go - The G By Guess Hondola Womens Peep Toe Platforms Heels in gold glitter - with leopard print heel. It has a sling-back like strap - Love this shoe because it elevates any outfit. I got my pair about two years ago, so they are a bit hard to find in the stores - if you are interested - you can pick it up here.
CLUTCH. Sticking with the gold theme, I went with a gold clutch with a wooden clasp. I got this for a birthday gift about three years ago. This is my go-to clutch for all event, I love it. I cannot find a link for it anywhere, but here is a similar clutch if you are interested.
JEWELRY. I decided to skip a necklace - it would be too distracting to the crew neckline. I went with dainty earrings and a chunky gold bangle. Sadly, I cannot find the links for these anywhere, click here and here for similar items
